Photography FAQs

Q:
How many photos will I get from my wedding?

This is one of the most asked questions and the answer depends on a number of factors:

  • How long is the wedding? - an afternoon UK civil ceremony is different from a Hindu wedding lasting 3 days.
  • The weather - bad weather will reduce the number of "outside shots"
  • The number of locations  - lots of different locations means more varied settings but can also reduce the number of shots as there is more time in transit between them
  • The number of guests - more people means more group shots, a wider range of reportage subjects
  • Special requests - such as for a mini photography studio/booth or a secret location shoot while the guests are entertained will all mean a different number of images at the end.

The list goes on and as you can begin to imagine many of the factors are outside of the photographers control.

Post Production

One very important factor which really defines a professional wedding photographer from the hobbyist photography is the amount of time and attention to detail spent going over the photos. It is quite normal to spend anything up to one hour working on a single image to get it perfect for the newlyweds. As a rough guide I typically spend 3 days in post production digitally retouching and editing the images for a typical one day wedding. This time is factored into the price.

So How Many Pictures?

As a rough approximation, from a one day wedding shoot the couple will recieve between 70 and 110 images. This is a guide only though. The job of the professional photographer is to select the cream of the crop and to digitally retouch them to the highest professional standard, during the day I will take between 400 and 2000 pictures, depending naturally on the factors mentioned above!
