I'm was just packing my cameras and kit for a wedding that I'm photographing this weekend and I heard a lot of bird noise from the front garden, so I grabbed my 200m telephoto lens and Nikon camera and quietly sneaked out the front door...

The source of the noise was a baby blackbird, and some other birds all feasting on a malt loaf that I'd thrown out for them a the other day. So it turns out that they like malt loaf! The baby black bird is one of three young that are in my garden and it's fascinating watching them as their parents show them how to eat and do "bird things". When I get up close to them they always remind me of little dinosaurs... the way they move and behave.

So it just goes to show, sometimes you don't have to travel far to see wildlife!

Happy new year! I've been using photoshop to digitally retouch images from my digital camera shoots for the past 5 years and because a number of people have asked me, I've decided to add it as a service that I offer.

What is digital retouching?

Digital retouching is a process where I use professional Adobe Photoshop products to alter an image to make it and the object or people in it look even better. As well as altering the colour, white balance, contrast and other aspects of the image digital retouching, which is also known as "photoshoping a picture" can be used for removing blemishes, hiding bags under the eyes, loosing acne spots, masking scars, changing the shape of a persons face and body and also to remove people or objects from an image.

Digital Retouching Service

I work very efficiently and clients usually visit me so they can sit and describe exactly what they want on their important images. I use the latest large wacom touchpads with seriously large high quality NEC professional screens to ensure the highest quality. And with 18Gb of RAM and 8 processors I can work extremely quickly to deliver great value for money.

Get in touch today for a friendly chat to find out more about the professional and cost effective digital retouching service I offer.

So last Tuesday I popped along in the afternoon and took some fly on the wall as well as more staged promotional shots. The people that work there are great and it's so nice to be able to creatively contribute to this studios success.

You'll be seeing some of the pictures appear on my galleries and no doubt some will also find their way onto their evolutionskinstudios.com website, along with facebook!

A good friend of mine and client Dave Urmston, has recently set up a new company as a mobile bicycle mechanic and he asked me to take and produce some "punchy" professional digital images of him and his bike to use on his "Mobile Bike Mechanics" website.

His bike is this amazing orange, black and white colour and he was wearing a matching jacket too so we went for a high contrast high exposure effect with pure white backgrounds. The shoot only took about 20 mins - so it was great value too and the resulting images really help make his website look great.

So check out Dave's new site, and I'll be taking more pictures for him soon so I'll keep you posted.

Many of you already know that I work closely with Spartmedia - a professional movie and media company who produce, online movies and DVDs for promotions, training, advertising and entertainment. Many of their clients, like Helen Porter of Pink Ink Tattoos and Nick Kemp, have been longstanding clients of mine for photography. Now that they are also using movies to promote their work on the internet the fact that they have a great library of digital images from me means that their movies can use these images.

So here are a few examples:

Pink Ink Tattoos

She used images from a promotional shoot she had with me in 2008 for the opening and closing credits

I created some high quality photographs of her tattoo equipment to produce an animation explaining how the tattoo gun works

Nick Kemp Training

In 2006 Nick commissioned a series of promotionsal shots which are used to great effect in the title screens. Notice the 2.5D technique where a still image is zoomed, shifted and rotated subtly against a background to create a sense of depth.

At the end of the movie we use a number of shots that I took while covering a number of his training events. This montage reinforces the message and shows his potential clients what the training courses are like - which increases the uptake on the courses

The combination of professional photographs and movies is fascinating and becoming increasingly important in marketting and advertising as more people are switching on to the use of movies in websites. By working closely with Spartmedia I understand and know how to deliver great images that are tailored to use in these movies.

Please give me feedback (go to the contact page) and I may put your comments up here to share.
