Night Time Long Exposure Self Portraits - Calverley Leeds
Wednesday 8th February 2012
It's well below zero and the ground is icy... but the full moon looks awesome! So I went out to photograph the moon but it disappeared behind some clouds... so it was time for plan B. Long exposure shots with myself moving out of frame half way through. This digital photograph was shot at f2.8 ISO 100 for 15 seconds on a 5D mark II using a Canon EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS II USM lens on manual focus. In post I did split toning, curves, levels, colour balancing, black levels and a few text layers. I'll be sharing tricks like how to do this properly at my photography training course in Leeds in May. See you there! Tags: Leeds, Night, Long Exposure, Self Portrait Categories: Mark's Art Project |

Canterbury - The Old Marlow Theatre - Photograph at Night
Tuesday 12th July 2011
I was visiting Canterbury last week and I walked past the new Marlow Theatre building site which is almost complete. It reminded me that one foggy night back in December 2006 I had done a series of photographs of Canterbury at night. One of them was this shot of the old Marlow Theatre. Enjoy! Canterbury Cathedral at night
Friday 8th April 2011
Sometimes I'm driving along and I spot something that I just have to photograph so last night as I was driving back from the Gulbenkian Theatre I noticed this view of Canterbury Cathedral. It was about 11pm so I pulled over and got a tripod and my 5D out and took a few long exposure shots. I've heard that there may be a hotel built where I was standing to take this shot which means that we'll loose this view so I'm glad I took the opportunity to grab this shot.

Wildlife Photography - in my front garden
Wednesday 19th May 2010
I'm was just packing my cameras and kit for a wedding that I'm photographing this weekend and I heard a lot of bird noise from the front garden, so I grabbed my 200m telephoto lens and Nikon camera and quietly sneaked out the front door... The source of the noise was a baby blackbird, and some other birds all feasting on a malt loaf that I'd thrown out for them a the other day. So it turns out that they like malt loaf! The baby black bird is one of three young that are in my garden and it's fascinating watching them as their parents show them how to eat and do "bird things". When I get up close to them they always remind me of little dinosaurs... the way they move and behave. So it just goes to show, sometimes you don't have to travel far to see wildlife!
